April 26, 2020 marked the 20^th anniversary the World Intellectual Property Organization first institutionalized World Intellectual Property Day. The annual celebration aims to raise awareness of the important role intellectual property rights play in daily life, and to recognize the contributions made by creators and innovators to the development of societies around the world. The World IP Day 2020 campaign, “Innovate for a Green Future,” highlights green innovation and sustainable technology, and explores how an efficient and effective intellectual property system can foster the growth of a green economy that supports the planet's life-support system. This year, in accordance with government recommendations of social distancing to minimize the risk of the spread of COVID-19, organizations and individuals worldwide observed the event via virtual channels.
