Jake Ferderer is an associate at COJK and a member of the firm's mechanical practice group, focusing his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications related to the automotive industry; heavy-duty machinery, tools, and equipment; alternative energy; consumer products; and mechanical products and devices.
Jake has over 12 years of experience as a mechanical engineer, specializing in thermodynamics, aerodynamics, product design, powertrain cooling, structural analysis, capability testing, failure root cause analysis, product safety and compliance, product liability litigation defense, and patent portfolio management.
Prior to joining COJK, Jake was employed at PACCAR Inc for 11 years. While at PACCAR, he was involved in many aspects of heavy-duty equipment design, product safety, and regulatory compliance. In his most recent position at PACCAR, he acted as the chair of the Kenworth patent committee, where he managed the company-wide patent portfolio in addition to overseeing all aspects of Kenworth Division's product safety, government compliance, and intellectual property strategy.
In 2012, Jake held a clerkship at COJK. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law in 2013. He received his B.S., cum laude, and his M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington. Jake is an inventor holding nine United States patents related to heavy-duty vehicle design, tailpipe emissions, and integrated operation.
