Mark Bailey is a registered patent attorney focusing his practice on patent prosecution and counseling in the areas of molecular biology, vaccines, immunology, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals.  Mark has a Ph.D. in cell biology and molecular physiology from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, where he focused his studies in the areas of electrophysiology, molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. His doctoral research aimed to understand the ligand-dependent gating mechanism of the intermediate conductance calcium-activated potassium channel, which resulted in the publication of several articles in the fields of biology, chemistry, and physiology. 

Prior to law school, Mark was a postdoctoral research fellow at Oregon Health and Science University's (OHSU) Vollum Institute, followed by a second fellowship at OHSU's Department of Chemical Physiology and Biochemistry. Mark received his J.D., with an Intellectual Property Law Certificate, from the University of California, Davis School of Law. While in law school Mark served as the editor of the Environmental Law and Policy Journal and the Business Law Journal.

Prior to joining COJK, Mark worked as an associate at an international general practice law firm and as a patent search analyst at a national IP service company. He also clerked at the United States Patent and Trademark Office under former Director Iancu and with the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, where he assisted administrative patent judges with drafting ex parte appeal decisions and all aspects of post-grant patent proceedings, including inter partes review challenges.
