Tom combines broad technical background and legal experience with strong strategic business development skills to assist clients with the development of patent portfolios during R&D; revenue generation through technology transfer, licensing, joint development and strategic partnering deals; strategic business development and investment; and IP litigation management strategy.

Tom brings over 35 years of professional experience in successfully building new software technologies in emerging markets and protecting them with intellectual property strategies. He provides an array of legal, business development, and management skills for creation, acquisition, commercial exploitation, and enforcement of intellectual property assets. Tom's practice combines over two decades of leadership and experience in high technology, including legal, software development, venture investment, and networking and business development for semiconductor, hardware and software companies.

Tom operates Kindling®, a technology and business consulting practice. He is a named inventor on a variety of U.S. patents in the fields of computer software, e-commerce, and wireless technology, and has taken technical disclosures on hundreds of technical ideas and related patent applications. His prior experience includes leading edge intellectual property work for clients such as Aldus/Adobe, Texas Instruments, RSA Data, Captaris/Open Text, Raychem Corp., Aventail, and a variety of startup companies. Clients include cloud technology innovator Smartsheet, a cloud-based project management and work collaboration solution; MarcomCentral, a pioneer in cloud-based print and marketing automation solutions; and mobile innovator Cequint, an industry leader in mobile caller identification. Tom has experience on the advisory board of technology companies, including DNA Response, Inc., a provider of multi-channel e-commerce, marketing, and order management solutions.
